Welcome to Lovat Short – Radstock
Chris and Abi Carpenter took on this well established opticians practice in 2007 – a century after the building was originally constructed. The beautiful curved glass shopfront is part of Radstock’s heritage and was originally a Jeweller’s window.
In its early days the practice also housed a dentist, in later years becoming Radstock’s optician under Mr Lane. John Lovat-Short bought the practice in 1978, retiring in 2007 and taking care to hand the practice on to someone who would look after it and the Radstock community well.
It’s seen some changes since then; we redesigned and refitted the interior in 2010 to turn it into a modern Optometrist’s. Cutting-edge technology followed in 2011 with our OCT retinal scanner; a device used for the very early detection of changes in the eye which can help prevent many eye problems.
In 2012, very sadly, the original shopfront was devastated by a lorry accident. Reconstruction work was completed in March 2013 and we’re pleased to say it’s now been fully restored to its former glory.
We have two permanent Optometrists Joanna and Naomi, so we are now able to see clients Monday to Saturday for a comprehensive range of examinations and services. Both Naomi and Joanna are fully trained in OCT (optical coherence tomography) and provide the very thorough eye examinations for which we are renowned. Registered Dispensing Optician and Practice Manager Tony has been with us since 2015, and along with Assistants Manager Janine, he is always on hand to help with any queries.
